GIS and Remote Sensing Training Program
Training Program Overview
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), in collaboration with the Emirati Society of GIS and Remote Sensing (ESGRS), has launched a comprehensive training program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. Tailored to all proficiency levels, this program caters to participants from governmental entities, private sector organizations, academic institutions, and students across the UAE. It offers a flexible, practical, and future-focused approach to empower learners and support national capabilities in geospatial technologies. The program features dynamic and immersive learning experiences, blending theoretical content with hands-on exercises, guided labs, case studies, and interactive sessions. To ensure effective knowledge absorption, quizzes are integrated throughout the modules, culminating in a final exam. This structured approach equips participants with the skills, confidence, and competence to make an immediate impact in their field.
Course Learning Outcome
- Build national capacity in GIS and Remote Sensing by equipping participants with essential knowledge and practical skills.
- Support decision-making in key sectors such as urban planning, environment, infrastructure, and disaster management through geospatial expertise.
- Foster innovation by introducing participants to the latest technologies, tools, and applications in the geospatial domain.
- Bridge the gap between theory and practice through hands-on training that reflects real-world challenges and use cases.
- Promote collaboration and knowledge exchange across government, private sector, academia, and students.
- Encourage lifelong learning and professional development by offering a structured, scalable, and engaging training journey.
Training Program Levels

Foundation Level
Designed for beginners, this level introduces the basic concepts of GIS and Remote Sensing. Participants will learn about coordinate systems, satellite data types, map interpretation, and the fundamentals of geospatial technologies. Ideal for students, fresh graduates, and professionals from non-technical backgrounds. To learn more about the Foundation Level, click here.

Intermediate Level
This level builds on the foundational knowledge and introduces more advanced tools and techniques, including spatial analysis, data classification, image processing, and the use of software such as ArcGIS and QGIS. Suitable for professionals working in planning, environment, utilities, or related fields.

Advanced Level
Focused on high-level applications and research, this level covers topics such as AI in Remote Sensing, advanced spatial modelling, change detection, digital twin integration, and big data geospatial analysis. Tailored for experienced users, analysts, and decision-makers looking to apply geospatial intelligence in strategic projects.

Specialized Workshops and Custom Tracks
In addition to the core levels, the program offers customized modules and workshops based on sector-specific needs, such as agriculture, climate monitoring, disaster management, smart cities, and defense. These can be tailored for teams or organizations with particular goals.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Yes. Each level of the training program includes quizzes and a final exam. Quizzes are designed to help participants become familiar with the type of questions that will appear in the final exam.
No, quizzes are not graded. They are provided as a learning tool to help trainees assess their understanding and prepare for the final exam more confidently.
The final exam is structured to assess both theoretical knowledge and practical skills:
- 70% Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- 30% Practical Problems using geospatial software such as ArcGIS
There are 50 multiple-choice questions in the final exam. The exam is conducted online.
Yes.
- Attendance Certificate: Awarded to all participants who complete the training sessions.
- Course Completion Certificate: Awarded only to those who pass the final exam with a score of 75% or higher.
Participants who do not pass the final exam can retake it as many times as needed. However, each additional attempt requires payment of an exam fee of AED 500.
Yes. Practical sessions are part of the training and will guide participants in using tools such as ArcGIS, ensuring they are well-prepared for the exam.
Yes. All participants will receive comprehensive training materials, including printed handouts, presentations, datasets, and reference materials tailored to each level of the program. These materials are designed to support learning during the course and serve as valuable resources for future reference.
The Foundation Level is ideal for students, fresh graduates, entry-level professionals, and anyone new to GIS and Remote Sensing. It provides a strong introduction to key concepts, software basics, and practical applications, making it suitable for participants with little to no background in the field.
The Intermediate Level is designed for professionals who already have a basic understanding of GIS and Remote Sensing and wish to build on that knowledge. It’s well-suited for individuals working in fields like urban planning, environmental studies, agriculture, utilities, or infrastructure, who want to apply geospatial tools more effectively in their roles.
The Advanced Level is tailored for experienced GIS and Remote Sensing users, researchers, data analysts, and decision-makers. It covers cutting-edge topics such as AI integration, advanced spatial analysis and high-level applications of remote sensing in strategic and operational contexts.
